Canadian Sunshine/Campfire Christmas Music 2009, round 1 of 10 songs. Enjoy. Very draft stage, but that's the way it goes.

Here's a song, from an album I wrote tonight for some folks in the Frozen north, some facing seasonal depression, others facing cancer.

Last year, another friend died from it, finding out only a month before that his body was full of cancer. He was one of those obnoxiously cheerful people, sharing, giving, friendly, positive... a real saint, in every sense of the word. Salsa Fridays, well, have never been the same.

Naturally, we miss him, feel challenged by his example, and more than anything else, realize how hard it is to live that way, amid all the things that can, and sometimes do, discourage us, in the winters of our lives.

Ah, but now for some sunshine. Share it freely kids, but remember if you want to use it, sell it, etc. plz drop me a line, I'm easy, and would love to know what podcasts, or productions it's used in.

Super busy. Adopting another child... things proceed. The boys get along well -- and are learning something I need to learn as well -- like every human on the planet -- not to hold on to anger -- considering everything they do a good job. I wonder why it's harder for adults when I think about all the misery in the world, wars, and other fights of all kinds for various reasons. One also reflects about their parents, one's own, and so many things in life when adopting. Saw the movie UP, and loved it, and wept. So many absent fathers -- and conviction. Now, with our electronics, we can be physically present and mentally absent in ways that would have been impossible just 5 years ago, unknown 10 years ago, and unthinkable 15 years ago. Mentally absent -- due to 100% work connectivity -- how is it different than a drinking problem? Blogging about it make you feel guilty? Email your friends -- or twitter about it -- why not stop and spend time with them -- because it feels ephemeral. Guess what?!? It is -- all our works are, per a good book. The burden is to choose the best each day, despite our feelings about the good. It's all about the best vs. the good, and the urgent. Here's the image -- enjoy! And Beware of the Angry Eyebrows

So, why are you raising the dogs? I got asked that -- and why, as volunteer, do I spend $3000 of my own hard earned money training them, and in the end, "give the up" to a stranger I will never meet. We've spent over $10,000 in the last 6 years on dogs. 1st, It's not about the dog, it's about helping people. As a Christian, I want to share the love Jesus has compassionately shown me. Jesus loves people, and He wants us to show that love in real and powerful ways. 2nd, We don't see who gets the dog, but we know that it will help them for the next 6-8 years, every day, 24/7. It's a great way to show the love. It's efficient, and let's face it there are things in life that no amount of computers are going to replace, and that's having a helper. 3rd, It is a lot of fun. 4th, The dogs belong to the non-profit, in our case, www.pawswithacause.org, they are not our dogs -- and we've signed a contract to that effect. It's easy to say good-bye knowing we will likely get another puppy to replace the young dog that's going to be trained for 6-8 months to help someone. 5th, the dog is a tool, not a pet. We are shaping a tool to help people. Pets are not tools. 6th, do you know anyone who is deaf, in a wheelchair, has seizures. Once to know them, and especially if they have a dog, you can see the benefits. It just makes sense. It's the right thing to do.

twitter, reduced from 2000 to 2, :) gotta know why I should follow you :) I looked at it as a numbers game, when in fact, it becomes more and more like standing in NYC as people zoom past, with higher numbers.

I used Stocktwits, and that was cute, but it wasn't any better than standing outside the Exchange, and hearing bits of the news... I didn't learn or become more successful about stock trading until I read and reflected.

I followed Tech gurus and "goddesses," and I learned they were even more ordinary and than I am. It was a let down, because they are into the latest toy, a faster laptop, or a fancier camera, without spiritual depth or reflection in their posts. Life is pretty surface for most of them.... at the level the Internet works on.

I followed parents, and found they complain of a lack of time to spend with their kids, between the blog, podcast, email, work, and twitter.

Perhaps I'm alone in seeing a way to regain some time... many of them are finding work is giving up on them...

For myself, Twitter was something to try when my family was away for a week's vacation. I try to learn some new "big" thing online once a month.

But naturally, and quickly, like blogging to excess, or any of the other charming time-wasters the internet provides, I realized I wasn't spending the time on other things, real things, spouse, child, my music, my work, in the very short time I had to play with Twitter, just a week, or two. If one can see so clearly the problem, then why not take the solution, and stop.

Now, granted spouse was away on Xmas vacation, but fundamentally, it fails as a marketing tool, as does most SEO, and social networking tools, for promoting my music.

I've made more money just by having good music on Itunes. Period.

People find it, I trust they tell their friends, and more people buy it. But trying to be friends with people to get them to buy yourself, (or in my case, download it for free :) LOL. is what our parents and others always taught, superficial and leaves the person on the other end feeling like they've been used.

I like the coolness of Twitter, but I had 2500 emails in 3 weeks in my oldest email account. I have way too much stuff now. When I'm old, I will not think, why didn't I twitter more or read more emails. I may ask why I didn't write more music, make more art, or spend more time with family... or the oldsters tell us we will.

I likely will follow people, but only people I know and am interested in knowing... for most things, it's still the Empire of the Air, Hebble, and Vanity, and a huge time pit, of which we will not see much long term good come out.

When I follow only 2 people, I don't even need to login, I know what they are doing.

If I knew, personally, the stocktwit buddies, or the #tcot, or the this, or the that group, perhaps, I'd like to keep up... but one of my life's learnings, is to move on and love on the people around you right here and now. And that's hard to do... even harder when one is unlovable :)

Meanwhile, our economy is being trashed by our leaders.

Yes, technology, twitter, internet, web, you name it, it's a tool, and it can do great good. Email, TV, radio, etc. All great servants, but Technology and access make very, very demanding Masters. Will this activity signifigantly improve my life and mind? Will it help others? Will it (gasp) please God? Most of all, what does my spouse really think, and kids?

Mine are actions that I can personally do -- it's our 4th dog to raise to help people, and this will be additional children that we will be helping (and they helping us) for the rest of our lives. I do think saving power, and conserving, recycling, etc. are all good -- but I want to do something now, hope for something, and spend my time, and take my money to make it happen. If you aren't ready to get out and do it... then... you are just talking about stuff. Do it. Better yet, do it, and keep doing it. The only reason I learned about this contest was I was subscribed to a business wire news service rss feed... :) Not because I was hunting contests :) I do like to see that Mr. Case and Mrs. Case have done some good stuff with the money they made from me -- yes, I used AOL for years. I hope she'll be fully recovered and able to go to Washington DC if we win :)
